Dear all,
For Monday's celebrations, please kindly bring along a mini (small) Singapore flag if you have. This will be handy when we are singing the National Day songs.
It is not compulsory. If you do not have, it is fine as well.

Addition within 100
Dear all,
Please note that we are covering the sub-topic: Addition within 100 this week. We should be wrapping up the topic.
One key problem for some students will be the adding with re-naming (e.g. 43 + 29). They may encounter some difficulties separating the tens and the ones. Please do more practice at home with your child, as this is a very important concept for foundation.
In class, I have given out more worksheets for the weaker students.
Thanks/regards,
Mdm Chan

Talking Point
Dear all,
We are having this assembly program "Talking Point" which 3 students will be selected to go up to the stage to talk about certain issues.
1A is involved in this topic:
"We are proud to be a Singaporean / a Singapore Permanent Resident / living in Singapore."
As the name suggests, it aims to provide a platform for 3 pupils in each class to present their views/opinions on a given NE message / theme. This programme also aims to instil in pupils the love for Singapore and rootedness in our country through this platform.
If your child is willing to participate, please write a short story (approximately 5 sentences) on the topic given. Pass it back to me or to the social studies teacher Mrs Lam next Tuesday. Our class is scheduled to present sometime in mid-May.

Clarification on Spelling
Dear all,
Just a clarification from a parent which I thought it would be best to clarified.
The numbers 11 -- 20 and ordinal numbers are to be tested randomly during Maths periods, when we have some free time after our normal work.
It may be quite a lot of work to learn, but not all the words would be tested at one shot. Besides, these words should be learnt as they form part of the Maths syllabus.
Pls do not be unduly worried if your child cannot spell these words immediately, but just note that along the way, we will need to know how to spell these words as we move along.
The normal spelling this Wednesday remains the same. Spelling 1 of Term 2.
Thanks/regards,
Mdm Chan

Multiplication Songs
Multiplication Songs
===============
These will be gone through during the pre-assembly programmes. We'll be singing these songs over the next term for P1 and P2. Multiplication is covered in Term 3 and in P2, but these are just songs they can sing to inculcate an awareness of Mathematics language.
Enjoy! ~
Here are the lyrics....
Track 1 (Number song)
I have got a niche in numbers no matter what you say
I have got a niche in numbers and it is going to stay in that way.
I have got a niche in numbers and so do you
Every one of us here has a niche in numbers too
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
I can count in units, tens, hundreds and thousands
I can count to ten thousands, hundreds thousands,
I can count to millions, billions and trillions
All the way to zillions cos they are finite numbers too.
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
Who can get into the universe, is it infinity?
Walking along the number line you never reach the end
Draw two parallel lines all in all
If you keep on trying, maybe they meet at infinity.
I know what is addition – is putting together
I know what is subtraction – is taking away
I know what is multiplication – is adding equal numbers
I know what is division – is sharing equally
I know what is fractions – is part of a whole
I know what is measurement – is length, area, volume
I know what is algebra – is I don’t know.
You can call it g or x or v or your name too.
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
Track 2 (2 times table)
I know what is multiplication – is adding equal numbers
I wonder what multiplication is really is –
1 time of 2 is 2
2 time of 2 is 4
3 times of 2 is 6
4 times of 2 is 8
5 times of 2 is 10
….
….
Track 3 (2 times table)
Skip count, skip count, count by 2,
Skip count, skip count, count by 2,
Skip count, skip count, count by 2
Let’s count to 20
2, 4, 6, 8, then 10
12, 14, 16, 18
Finally we reach 20.
We counted to 20.
(Repeat 2 times)
Track 4 (3 times table)
This is how the 3 times table song goes:
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30
Oh it is great that we can skip count
Skip counting by 3.
(Repeat 2 times)
Now, it is your turn to sing.
Track 5(4 times table)
4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32
After that we have 36 and next come number 40.
(Repeat 2 times)
Track 6 (5 times table)
5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45
Then comes 50, then comes 50,
Multiples of 5, multiples of 5,
(Repeat 2 times)

Khan Academy Addition
This is a very good website for online learning.
Khan Academy talks about the most difficult concepts to the very basic concept.
This is what he says about addition. The level of English used can be quite difficult for the students. Parents, if you are showing this, do take some time to explain to the child what he is talking about.
http://www.khanacademy.org/video/basic-addition?playlist=Arithmetic
There are sums you can attempt, you just need a google account, log in and try to do the sums that are attached to the video. Just click on the "Do Exercise" on the task bar, login with your google account, and you can proceed from there.
Thanks.
Cheers and happy exploring!

Optional H/w - ASAD
Optional H/w -- ASAD (A Story A Day)
=============================
I have asked some of the children in the class to write a story which revolves around the school core values. This story may be used to be recited on stage during A-story-A-day time.
Words should be around 100 - 200 words, which will take around 3 - 5 minutes to read out the story. It should be an original story, something that happen to themselves.
As this is optional, I will be collecting the stories if they have completed.
Thanks/regards
